Gewida Academy
Late 2022 - Early 2023
Gewida Academy is a US-based online platform offering one-on-one Islamic education — Quran, Tajweed, and Islamic Studies — taught live by qualified instructors. Students book sessions on their own schedule and learn from home over scheduled live classes.
ReformedTech delivered the original platform end-to-end as a fixed-scope MVP engagement. We took the product from initial design through to a launchable, paying-customer-ready application — handling frontend, backend, integrations, and storage infrastructure. The engagement ran from late 2022 through early 2023, when we handed over the complete codebase to the Gewida team. They have owned and evolved the platform internally ever since.
What we shipped in the MVP
- Teacher onboarding — instructor profiles, qualifications, and availability setup.
- Student onboarding — registration, account setup, and learning preferences.
- Calendar and scheduling — instructors publish availability, students book one-on-one sessions.
- Course creation — structured courses assembled from sequenced classes.
- Notes — per-class notes for session-by-session feedback, plus per-course notes for longer-arc progress tracking.
- Live-class delivery via Zoom — sessions launch into Zoom from the platform with class-specific meeting links. The MVP supported live classes only; recorded sessions were intentionally out of scope.
- Payments — integrated payment processing for plan signups.
- Asset storage on AWS S3 for course materials and uploads.
Stack
- Frontend: Next.js
- Backend: Laravel (PHP)
- Live classes: Zoom integration
- Storage: AWS S3
Engagement and handover
This was a fixed-scope MVP build. We were the engineering partner from initial design through launch, and the engagement concluded with a complete codebase handover in early 2023. The live product at gewidaacademy.com reflects the foundation we delivered plus the team's own continued work on top of it since handover.
Engagement context
ReformedTech work on Gewida Academy combined product thinking, implementation, and practical delivery support. The goal was not only to ship screens or code, but to make the workflow usable for the people running the operation day after day.
Our team typically contributes across discovery, interface design, frontend engineering, backend integration, QA, deployment, and post-launch iteration. That lets clients keep one accountable delivery partner while still getting the specialist skills needed for a production software project.
